Brandywine School District Seeks Input Regarding Upcoming Referendum

Dear Fellow Brandywine Hundred Resident:

The Brandywine School District School Board has voted to approve a referendum to increase revenue for operating our schools. The Board has scheduled that operating referendum for March 28th, just six weeks from now.

Representatives of the School District would like to speak to as many civic associations as possible, and have asked us to forward the following letter to you.

If your association has a meeting scheduled between now and March 28th, I urge you to contact the individuals listed below and to set up a presentation for your community.

If your association is not scheduled to meet before the referendum, please give some thought to sending out a notice informing your community about an upcoming referendum meeting scheduled for a school near you. Information regarding those meetings can be obtained by contacting the individuals below.

CCOBH urges you and your neighbors to become informed concerning this referendum and about how it impacts you and our children.

Bob Valihura
President, CCOBH

Hello Civic Leaders:

As you know by now, the Brandywine School District has scheduled an Operating Referendum on March 28, 2012. Over the last decade, Brandywine School District has made steady progress toward making our schools the best in the Delaware region. We have achieved this success over the years by working closely with civic and business leaders throughout the district.

A community based Referendum Planning Committee was organized last year that spent several months studying the district’s operating needs and determining how much funding will be required over the next few years to maintain our facilities, and to continue improving our children’s education. The request we have put before the community is the product of their work.

Who were the members of the Referendum Planning Committee?

The committee included teachers, administrators, parents, business leaders, and civic leaders like you. All of them volunteered their time to prepare a responsible and frugal funding.

The economy has been very tough on everyone.

This is why we believe it is particularly important to reach out to the community to explain why this referendum is essential now, and how we arrived at the funding we are requesting.

Why this referendum Presentation is important to you!

The Referendum Steering Committee composed of community members, school district staff members and teachers, just like the Planning Committee, has begun making presentations to various community groups to help them understand the need for this referendum and the impact it will have on our children’s education. This will be your best opportunity to listen to and question the people who planned and proposed this referendum.

Invite us to discuss the 2012 Referendum in your community! Please call or e-mail a response today with a suggested date, time and location for your next community meeting. Thank you for your interest.
