The New Castle County Office of Emergency Management is seeking to document property damage from the recent storms. If you have sustained property damage, please call: 395-5555 and tell the operator you wish to report. There may be funding to assist in repairs and flood prevention measures.

Universal Curbside Recycling Has Started

Universal Curbside recycling has started. All companies must provide a free container and start recycling service by September 15th.

Delaware Recyles gives information including list of 20 collectors with phone numbers that provide service in New Castle County. Call around to compare.

At least one collecter will provide smaller container if the Standard 96 gallon container is too big for you.

Public Transit Service Restored to Delaware City: DNREC grant helps restore DART bus service after more than 40 year absence

(DELAWARE CITY, July 18, 2011) – Today, the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), DART First State and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) announced public transit service to Delaware City, the first scheduled bus service to the city in four decades. The one-year pilot service is made possible through a grant from DNREC’s Community Environmental Project Fund that invests in projects to improve communities that have been affected by environmental violations. Stream and Wetlands Restoration in Harvey Mill Park

In 1996 Naamans Creek Watershed Association began its efforts to address some of the stormwater runoff problems along Naamans Creek. Councilman Robert Weiner and Representative Wayne Smith advocated for and helped to fund the Naamans Creek Flood Abatement Study (1999). One of the recommendations was to restore the stream to a more natural meandering form and restore the floodplains in Harvey Mill Park (between Lancashire and Wynnwood) to act as a natural temporary storage facility for rainwater after storm events. This restoration has finally begun! It will extend from northeast of the basketball court to the lower bridge across the creek. New Castle Conservation District is overseeing the project.
